The second album for Different Drummer from Hanover's Pre Fade Listening offers more blissfully chilled out grooves to keep the devotees of the horizontal nodding with approval. They cover a vast amount of ground in the search of the perfect sample - influenced by Jamaican dub, Brazillian bossa nova and Balearic beats, they manage to capture an element of each and weave it into their own rich soundscape. The album starts with the breathless vocals and blues guitar of 'Betties', before dropping...
"A follow up to 1998's debut for the Hanover dub connection of Felix Wolter and Trigger, on the label that gave us the excellent G-Corp set from a few months ago. The album starts off as sexily as possible with a sultry blues guitar loop sounding like Hendrix from another dimension, then a lazy female 'hey hey' vocal sample leads us into 'Homeworx', a 'Voodoo Ray' for a bleached generation. When Tikiman steps forward for vocals on 'Mr Medicine Man', you realise that this is definitely a chilled dub experience. There's a slow, unforced shuffle to the dub tracks like Dub Syndicate on largactyl. The debt is confirmed by album credits to Style Scott, Skip MacDonald and Adrian Sherwood (for samples - I never knew he gave samples away at all)."
