Stagger

A 4 track boom bap/nineties ep (12m 14s) — released February 16th 2015 on Keep Up!

The story of this EP begins on London-based radio station Itch FM. Keep Up!'s Tom Central tuned in to hear his friend Bobafatt's weekly Sunday Scenario show in mid-2014. Amongst all the new music, one producer caught Tom's ear: Bristol-based beat-maker Ded Tebiase. The Stagger EP is the result of this connect.

Although born in London, Ded Tebiase grew up amongst Bristol's rich musical history. His main Hip Hop influences range from Pete Rock, Apollo Brown through to Premier, local-hero Lewis Parker and Eloquent.

Not waiting for his musical career to sort itself out, he's self-released four EPs of his own productions including Every day I'm alive and most recently 3rd Eye:a collaboration with fellow Bristolian MC Javier SMI. The full length 3D was released in the latter stages of 2014.

The Stagger EP sees Keep Up! sticking with more-beat driven instrumental productions with four tracks of good old-fashioned Hip Hop. Two to stomp to; two to mellow and in the mould of a beat tape. Opening with title cut Stagger could be something straight out of the Madlib school of hooks with its immediately recognisable sample flip accompanied by live swinging drums. Two Point Four drills down harder at the dancefloor with a skippy beat, relentless bassline and coupled with a cheeky vocal hook. 5am switches the mood to back the home stereo. Laid back, but still sample-based. The blinds are drawn down on the EP with closing track Smoke in my Eyes's supremely mellow piano and double bass lick is the call to stub out the last light of the night.

Stagger is released digitally via Kudos Records Distribution on Monday 16 February 2015.
