PORK CHOPS (BEST OF PORK RECORDING)

A 23 track pop album () — released June 30th 2003 on Kudos

In Hull, the gritty North of England, a place far from the cloying commerciality of the capital, an iconic independent label has been steadily releasing the highest quality leftfield dance music Pork Recordings have been one of the most respected labels of the last 15 years. Despite numerous offers to slip into the cold comforting hands of the majors they have remained defiantly independent and enigmatic. Such principals come at a price, most notably the departure of Fila Brazillia. After releasing 6 albums by Fila, with combined sales of over 100,000 units, they eventually came to the attention of the industries 'merchant bankers' . Others like Opik and Heights Of Abraham were poached into oblivion by Deconstruction (R.I.P.) and ZTT. Nevertheless, Pork continued unperturbed, with highly acclaimed releases from Baby Mammoth and Bullitnuts. Out of the dormant ashes of the Bullitnuts came the new projects Momma Gravy and Leggobeast. Recent signings have included regular Fila session muso's Moss and local master of the macabre Dustin. Most of Pork's artists live and work in Hull with the notable exception of Russia's Tetris. Kudos Records are proud to present the finest musical moments of this inspiring label from the last 15 years...long may they continue...and we look forward to releasing Volume 2 in 2018 !'

"High quality jazzy chill out. Listen to it and you'll soon be rocking to the rhythm of a groovy meat." 3 out of 5. - N.G. MUZIK

"Two CDs and 23 tracks of some of the finest laidback listeing know to man, calling on past glories of Fila Brazilia, Bullitnuts, Moss, Heights of Abraham and Solid Dopctor. Despite the fact that some of these tracks are getting on for 15 years old, they are still as fresh as the day they were born.4/5" - Steve Nickolls DJ Magazine
