What is it about Brighton, England? How does this slightly faded Victorian seaside town manage to produce so much great, funky music and so many great bands? Is it something in the sea air or a diet of Brighton rock, toffee apples and candy floss? No matter, the results sure are sweet!

Hot on the heels of Brighton’s’ ‘Baby Charles’, The Impellers (formerly Ed Meme & The Forms) have already charmed the pants off of BBC radio presenters Craig Charles and Mark Lamarr with their biting, c...
"“Really great, really enjoyed that”"
Mark Lamarr, BBC Radio 2
"“Another cracking piece of modern funk”"
Craig Charles, BBC 6 Music
"Superb - easily the best new funk tracks I've heard since Baby Charles - these guys have the potential to be even better!"
DJ Ian Wright, Deep Funk DJ
"“...There are so many bands who inevitably go back to the root but are not always successful in providing the organic fruit, I feel you guys are an exception...”"
DJ fitzroy da Buzzboy, Solar FM
"Engagingly unique fusion of deep funk, super- heavy soul and kicking afro breaks."
www.journalism.co.uk
"A stomping funk/soul band, led by female vocals and raw grooves. Freestyle once again proves itself one of (if not the) biggest players in the field of raw, deep and hard-hitting funk"
Zephir, Mama's Funky Flow
"Nothing robotic here at all as the groove is fluid, moving, and plenty darn organic -- a heavy dose of deep funk from the mighty Impellers! A groove that makes us rank these guys right up there with The Bamboos"
Dusty Groove America
"Excellent groove led Funk from this Brighton based band, there is an infectious energy about the tunes with vibrant horns, wicked basslines and great guitar riffs. The single 'How Am I' is a fine Funk tune featuring vocalist Clair Witcher, who is very much in the Alice Russell vein. Funky instrumentals 'The Chanc', the awesome 'Taste Like Chicken' with Snowboy on percussion is on point. 'Greenwich Meme Time' is another instrumental jam featuring organ. The staccato 'Fire', the horn driven 'Just Enough Rope' and the environmental messaged 'Last Dance Of The Moai' all feature Clair prominently on vocals. This is a fine debut and is superior modern day Funk."
