The latest release from Hit and Hope Records sees Leeds duo Elkat & Moleskin putting out a limited edition 12" single featuring remixes from Optimum and Donga & Blake. 'Hurt' features deep atmospheres, yearning vocals and hollow, syncopated percussion. The melodic keys build a sophisticated rhythm and add depth to the chilled vibes and the combination of vocals and crystalline synths creates a sound that is melancholic, yet fresh. The first remix comes from London based DJ/producer Optimum. The South London native's influences of US hip-hop, grime, house and modern bass music are the perfect spring-board into the original, and his crunked up take on the original doesn't disappoint. US-style hi-hats and bright key stabs subvert the softer tones of the original into something plain rude. Donga & Blake are veterans of the Brighton electronic scene. On their record label 'Well Rounded Records' they serve up innovative house music that aim's to "bridge the gap between hype-bangers and deep groovers." Their remix certainly delivers consolidating raw, almost-techno beats with a classic bassline, while almost eradicating the vocals entirely. The result is a powerful, thumping, stripped back arrangement, which nods to sounds of the past while remaining firmly aimed at 2012. All 3 mixes have been proven to work floors on numerous occasions.
