Liquid Assets

Released: 1st March 2004 | 11 track album
With critical acclaim in the international music press - Jockey Slut, DJ Magazine, Knowledge, Straight No Chaser, Breakin' Point etc. - and enthusiastic dj support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff, Rainer Truby, Roni Size, London Elektricity, Aquasky, Howie B, Adam Freeland, Landslide and many more nine2five recordings has quickly established itself as the most creative source for fresh talent emerging from the Nordics. The first release in a series of compilations combining key releases and brand new & exclusive material, Liquid Assets Vol. 1 presents the sound of nine2five recordings in 2003. The history behind nine2five recordings goes hand-in-hand with the recent development of underground club culture in Finland. The local producers appearing on the label have quickly become some the most innovative and hotly-tipped on the circuit, with DHARMAONE churning out tracks and remixes on Hospital, Compost and Inspirit among others, and INFEKTO laying his brekabeat pressure on the Passenger label. Having spread the label sound in cities like London, Paris and Amsterdam, label heads THE EXECUTIVES also here as producers. Together with the much sought after 'Belong' DHARMAONE and previously unreleased CUICA remix on the Gilles Peterson favourite 'Left Hand Jazz', the first nine2five recordings compilation also introduces brand new & exclusive material from the likes of INFEKTO, APHRATEC, REBEAT and labelheads THE EXECUTIVES. The sampler EP comes complete with an exclusive JIMPSTER house remix of the DharmaOne broken beat classic 'Belong'. With a forthcoming release schedule including more gems from Infekto, DharmaOne and The Executives, LIQUID ASSETS is a testament of where the label is today. DJ SUPPORT FROM THE LIKES OF LAURENT GARNIER, GILLES P, RAINER TRUBY, BENJI B, MR SCRUFF... DON'T SLEEP!'
"it's safe to say that 'Liquid Assets' is one of the best colllections of broad beats out there'4/5"
"Their blend of Nordic Soul, US Garage meets electronic funk has winning flavours"
Ben Edwards, DJ Magazine
"The small but perfectly formed nine2five back catalogue is stuffed full of broken beat, nu jazz and leftfoeld gems, and this compilation album collects a few of the best as well as showcasing some excellent new material. Music comes from Infekto, Mekhanist and Dharma One (including the classic 'Belong') amongst others, and with Roni Size, the Hospital Crew and Aquasky mob amongst their supporters you can safely say this is ONE OF THE BEST COLLECTIONS OF BROAD BEATS OUT THERE."
"Brilliant, a superb release ! I will hammer it out."
Laurent Garnier, F-Comm
"Awesome, awesome, awesome !"
Rainer Truby, Compost Records
"Good all round release !"
Mr Scruff
"A top notch percussive re-rub on the 2 step Latin classic Left Hand Jazz?..the illusive 2 step jazz club classic from Helsinki gets a tasty rework."
Dom Servini, Straight No Chaser
"It's all good. Jimpster on the mix for 2002 TUNE OF THE YEAR and a great nu soul (!?) track with The Waves. Belong is an all time classic."
Nik Weston
"My pick is 'Lucifer', right up my alley, will be playing this to death."
Andrew Jervis, Ubiquity
"It rocks !"
Tom Wieland, Les Gammas
