Cloud - Two Hands Bound - Single

Two Hands Bound - Single

Audio Antihero

Released: 23rd February 2018 | 2 track indie rock single

Long Island's Cloud (aka Tyler Taormina and friends) debuted for Audio Antihero with the lauded Comfort Songs LP. Taormina returns in 2018 with his new album Plays With Fire; nine songs and 32 minutes of quiet optimism and greying nostalgia, mixing the wide-eyed naïveté of Jonathan Richman with the cold-weather pop of Yo La Tengo and the fractured soundscapes of Galaxie 500. Cloud's previous LPs have found praise and support from Pitchfork, Stereogum, GoldFlakePaint, Drowned in Sound, CLASH, Indie Shuffle, KCRW, FM4 and DIY Mag and BBC 6 Music's Tom Ravenscroft, Gideon Coe and Tom Robinson.

The upcoming Plays With Fire LP's second single, Two Hands Bound, is full of guitars, percussion and harmonies (feat. Samira Winter of Winter), a giddy and layered cacophony about physically and creatively working yourself to death. Though Taormina talks of love and happy days, the song leaves us with the admission that time made me a bitter one / an animal is what I've become. This beguiling and uplifting pop song is one of the loosest moments on the upcoming album but it's not without its darkness either.

This single is accompanied by exclusive non-album B-Side Plays With Fire, a moodier moment from Cloud that spirals into an emotional cacophony. These two very different songs offer some ideas of what to expect from Cloud in 2018.

"Astoundingly accomplished…taking his black parade out of the basement and into the streets."
"Glossy dream-pop production with deeply confessional lyrics"
"find a time for reflection, a confirmation of life and its wonder, and a sense of belonging… And I know, years down the road, this will remain a landmark album for me, with just the same resonant power."
Gold Flake Paint
"Reminiscent of Panda Bear or Toro Y Moi, the gentle arrangement is matched to a delicate vocal which hints at something darker."
Clash Music
"Bright-eyed, wondrous…he sounds like he possesses the keys to another universe"
"It's the sound of someone facing up to the age-old problem of growing up too soon and all the trials and tribulations that come along with that."
Drowned in Sound
"Swells of white noise in the background paired with the keyboard and drum machine beat creates a breezy energy as the slinky vocals float atop effortlessly."
