Following on from the great success of 'Echo Chamber' – Ash Walker's second studio album for London's Deep Heads – here we present a 12" sampler from the album, featuring his track 'Step Wrong' (featuring Sage) on the A-side, and a specially commissioned remix from South Africa's Escapism Refuge on the B.
'Step Wrong' is a down-tempo and melancholy track, featuring sparse drums, a punchy bassline and dubbed-out reverbs and effects. All of these elements are complimented by Sage's clean and honest vocals, which float above the instrumentation perfectly.
Jazzy, UK spoken word fusion at it's absolute finest!
Escapism Refuge is a young artist hailing from South Africa, who's been honing his production skills over the last five years. His remix uses a pitched down 2-step beat, deep bass and shimmering keys to really notch up the atmosphere on this track and turn it into a highly effecting four-minute soundscape.
Critical acclaim for Ash Walker's works range from Gilles Peterson, Gideon Coe, Don Letts and Tom Ravenscroft at BBC Radio 6 Music, Dom Servini at Wah Wah 45s and Joe Kay at Soulection.
