Jem

A 5 track ep () — released June 6th 2005 on CRAZYWISE RECORDS

# #
Welsh-born singer, has written songs for Madonna, played a sell-out benefit gig in front of 6000 people with Beck, Polyphonic Spree and Jurassic 5, caught the attention of Dave Matthews and legendary LA radio station KCRW, as well as landing a record deal with ATO Records (home to David Gray). While the EP is preparing for release in the UK, Jem has been selected for 'Virgin Recommends' in the US alongside The Darkness and Dizzee Rascal and featured on MTV's 'You Saw It Here First'. Her debut album has shifted 25,000 copies in the first month of release in the US. 'Songs like the effervescent 'Just A Ride' and the pleading 'Save Me' bounce along with a pop sensibility that could make Jem's full-length album 'Finally Woken' the surprise of the year' 'New York Times 'Armed with a voice as crisp and cool as her musical intuition, Jem could have a sparkling future' 'USA Today 'If you're going to embrace a one-named Brit songstress, please please please make it Jem' 'Entertainment Weekly'

?Some engaging tunes set to a check list of modern beats and arrangements?she could become next year?s Dido.? - DAVID SINCLAIR THE TIMES

?Her debut single ?They? from debut album ?Finally Woken? has been garnering the kind of attention artists would willingly sell their bodies for.? - NATALIE DANIELLE MARSHALL BLUES & SOUL

CULTURE MAGAZINE: ?Finally Woken is one of those records ? good for a party, even better, and deadlier, when you?re down in the dumps ? that sneaks up on you rather than shoots out the lights. A certain constituency in pop insists this is a cardinal sin; a much larger one knows that is nonsense.? - DAN CAIRN SUNDAY TIMES

?A copy of Brit singer Jem?s debut album has landed on my desk ? and it?s brilliant.? - THE SUN

"?[Jem?s] soft voiced, British-accented pop has struck a chord with the American public, with it?s mix of folk, sleazy rock guitars, authentic hip hop bounce and occasional St Etienne-style kitsch.? - WORD MAGAZINE

?With comparisons to America?s favourite UK export Dido part and parcel of the job, Jem cuts a cool character on the brink of megastardom.? - TENSE MAGAZINE

?This Welsh girl sounds astonished that she?s made an album, let alone sell over 100,000 copies to date of her Didoesque (but tougher, sweeter, stronger) folk-hop debut Finally Woken.? - ATTITUDE

"Finally Woken is] a fusion of 90s trip hop beats, film overtures and Sarah Cracknell-meets-Beth Gibbons vocals.? - RIP & BURN MAGAZINE

?If the sound of Photek?s ?Baltimore? has got you all hot and excited, you should also check out his remix of Jem?s ?They? on BMG.? - MIXMAG
