Dark Dread / Emerald
A 3 track single () — released February 6th 2006 on Blossoms Kitchen Records
Madtone resides in Peckham, South London and has his first release 'Dark Dread' coupled with 'Emerald', out on a limited seven inch single on Blossoms Kitchen Records.
The two tracks combine Madtones? influences, musical and non musical; dub, Jah Wobble, Holger Czukay, New Order, Throbbing Gristle, pirate radio, shortwave espionage and assorted noises culled from years of taping off the radio.
'Dark Dread' is a bass heavy monster. Its deep, dark and full of suprises. The darker side of dub perhaps?
'Emerald' is at the other end of the musical scale; rough and jarring. An old musical box is turned inside out with some heavy distortion and peppered with some dark beats.
The tracks have already been played on CD-R on BBC Radio 1s? The Blue Room, XFMs? Flo-Motion, BFBS's The Chill Out Room and Steve Barkers? On The Wire.
Worldwide radio plays on:
The Echo Chamber (KFAI, USA)
Mental Chatter (CKLN, Canada)'
The A side is a dark beast with an 80's UK dub feel, full of surprises and heavy, heavy bass. Emerald is a more electronica inspired piece with a distorted music box providing a jarring melody - Big Chill
