Lucid Dreams EP

A 4 track garage ep (16m 34s) — released March 10th 2014 on Big People Music

'Lucid Dreams' is the much-anticipated debut release from long-running Clubnight-turned record label, BPM.

After 5 years of bringing some of the most groundbreaking artists to come out of the UK Bass, Funky & Grime scene to the city of Manchester, BPM's evolution into the 'Big People Music' digital imprint presents its first release, as a perfect representation of the cities' thriving musical scene.

With early support from Zed Bias, Elijah & Skilliam and Pelican Fly's DJ Slow, 'Lucid Dreams' sees the purple productions of Manchester-based G.S.ONE journey through a variety of influences that touch upon tinges of Grime, RnB, Jazz & Ambient Dubstep.

The first track 'Pillow Talk', pairs a quivering bassline and gleaming synth against a subtle, but driving plastic symphony that vibrantly colours the tune in sensual melancholy. Accused by Mixmag to 'lead to feelings of Euphoria,' this magical instrumental number has been championed by the likes of Elijah & Skilliam on their 22Tracks Grime Chart, Pelican Fly boss DJ Slow, and BPM's very own Madam X on her respective 1xtra Shows.

'I Was Just Thinking' is where the Manchester talent comes out in full force. With the collaborative powers of G.S.ONE, legendary rapper Fallacy, and the seductive vocals of Tyler Daley driving this record through swooshing percussions and airy synths, this particular piece challenges the boundaries of Rap, and RnB onto an electronic, percussive, provocative landscape.

'Hold Me Close' highlights the beauty of a G.S.ONE production when paired with the spirit of UK Funky & House. Livelier than the other two, Hold Me Close's looped vocal playfully frolics between variations of rhythm and pad fitting for any club environment, whilst the T Vicious remix exudes the energy of Speed-Garage and Grime, perfectly in keeping with the Big People Music sound.

This one’s fresh out the box from a new label that got in touch via email, so shouts to them for sending us killer tunes. That’s just how we like it, especially when the beats sound as promising as this. GS One turns in the lights-down 140bpm r’n’b of ‘I Was Just Thinking’, which is as much a swooshy percussive roller as it is a stone-cold love song. ‘Pillow Talk’ pairs a fat, undulating bassline with a glowing synth, the type of funk-fuelled link-up that can only lead to feelings of euphoria. A T Vicious remix completes the package, making this a strong release indeed. - Mixmag Press
