Chalk People

A 8 track indie pop album (39m 37s) — released June 29th 2018 on Chalk Sounds

Chalk People is the brainchild of songwriter and producer Simon Lord (Simian, Black Ghosts), inspired by his recent move to the seaside town of Margate. This album of standalone songs and fragmented collages is a collaboration with fellow producer and violinist Raven Bush (Syd Arthur, Heliocentrics), and vocalist Zoë Carassik.

At times dreamy, pensive and playful, Chalk People's sound combines electronics, strings and delicate vocal harmonies to evoke a summer's day on the beach. The blend of voices and pop nous is reminiscent of Metronomy and Dirty Projectors, the strings recall Arthur Russell, with Lord's unique lyrical blend of the profound and the absurd placing the album firmly in Britain.

I love the Chalk people record! It manages to sound both modern and colloquial. Adventurous and warm, like if Arthur Russell lived in a British seaside town. - James Ford Producer, Simian Mobile Disco
