Afrika Underground

A 11 track pop album () — released January 1st 2000 on COUNTERPOINT RECORDS

'Afrika Underground' illuminates the sounds of resistance that emerged in the 1970's & 80's as part of the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. Drawing on the back catalogue of independent label As-Shams (The Sun). This album features a host of jazz, funk and fusion heavyweights including Pops Mohamed's Movement In The City, Malawi born drummer Dick Khoza and his mighty 12 piece band, Cape Town's EW&F inspired Pacific Express, and the late Mike Makhalemele. This album is testament to both the courage of the musicians featured and the power of the music they made.
