In the Spring of 2005 Counterpoint Records will unleash it's 'Version Excursion' compilation cd. The concept for this is to select killer cuts from the 'Jazz Bizniz', 'Disco Juice' and 'Afrika Underground' compilations and have them reworked, re-edited and remixed by the likes of Yam Who, Beyond There, Nicola Conte, Missa Negra (Bugz crew), Fertile Ground, Les Gammas, etc. Some of these tracks were only released as limited edition 12' singles, others are exclusive to this album. As a taster for 'Version Excursion', here are two bona fide jazz bizniz nuggets, lovingly re-edited and reworked by Nick The Record & Ennio Styles, respectively. A1.'No Other Love But You '- Clarice Labbe (Nick The Record re-edit) Originally recorded in 1980 in Washington DC by local singer Clarice Labbe and legendary jazz & Motown pianist Charlie Hampton, this track appeared on the first instalment of 'Jazz Bizniz' and caused a stir on the jazz-dance scene. Brighton dj & vinyl junkie Nick The Record decided to re-edit and extend the track especially for his marathon dj sets. Following on the legacy of re-edit masters like Danny Krivit and DJ Harvey, Nick has taken a 3 minute gem and rearranged and extended all the best bits of the track to create a fluid feelgood jazz-dance groove that will put a big smile on your dancefloor. AA1. Zouk - Marius Clutier (Ennio Styles remix) Antilles born Maruis Cultier's 'Zouk' is possibly one of the strangest cuts on our 'Jazz Bizniz 2' compilation. A scary combination of moogs, meowing cats and abandoned Latin percussion that somehow work their voodoo magic on the dancefloor. Reworked here by Melbourne dj & producer Ennio Styles into a kind of broken Latin disco jam. Kicking off with some firey Latin percussion, shadowed by a funky bassline and Latin piano chords as the ghost of Cultier shouts incoherently, alongside snippets sax and sirens, over the ass shaking groove. As the sound twists and turns into a Caribbean version of a roller-skating disco jam, Mr Styles drops a squelchingly funky moog solo over the party hardy rhythm. A fitting tribute to the unacknowledged genius of Marius Cultier!'

"purveyors of ear-pleasing grooves dig up cuts from those ear-blessing journeys and get new school players to rejig them. Here are the first fruits of the labour; stylish retoolings from Nick The Record and Ennio Styles. Nick has re-edited Clarice Labbe's "No Other Love But You", a key over-flowing lovely, with earnest vocals and infectious drumming. Ennio's cover of Marius Cultier's "Zouk" is a scary afro-inspired piece, with strangely shaped percussive layers, frowning key melancholics and odd wind instrument flexes. Watch out for the CD!" - Jon Freer Keep On Magazine
