Fronted by vocalist / lyricist Chantal Thompson, who brings a glacial quality to leading the line, unsurprising when she numbers the likes of Joni Mitchell and Tracey Thorn as vocal influences. Jason Kenemy on keys adds some jazz improvisation to the band's sound, coupled with the warm and mood-enhancing tonalities from Wayne Ogilvie, one of Toronto's most distinguished session guitarists, and Trumpet / flugelhorn player Benji Perosin effortlessly combine to produce a refreshing contemporary sound. Blues and Soul magazine further describes their 'sublime jazz' sound as 'vivacious and soulful', a testament to Directions? mature yet wide appeal; it's this authentic character that's brought radio play through the likes of Jazz FM and BBC Radio.
