Hailing from The New Yorkshire town of Kingston-upon-Hull, Momma Gravy are fine examples of the rich musical heritage that has spawned the likes of Fila Brazillia and Baby Mammoth. For a town that gets plenty of knocks from the mainstream media, Hull has managed to stick two fingers up to popular perception through it's constant stream of classic albums and singles. And much of the praise for this can be directed towards the legendary Pork Recordings, the label that started the West Midlands-Hull connection back in 1991 (founder Dave Brennand comes from Wolverhampton). And now after 2 EP's and a debut album, Momma Gravy are set to complete the circle by releasing their second album on Birmingham's Different Drummer. Robert Ellerby (aka Beige) is also a member of Bullitnuts (alongside Leggo Beast's Murray Clarke), but his partner for the Momma Gravy project is the exotically named Remko Schouten. Their second album refuses to be categorised; the changing tempo's, wide range of influences and unique samples provide plenty of surprises for the listener. From vocodered downtempo epics to techno inspired percussive work-outs, Adios is an album for the easily bored. Just when you think you've got it pinned down...there's a quick drop of the shoulder and a Brazillian step-over and you're left wondering why you're on your backside and not dancing on the sofa. The album opens with the dancefloor- friendly 'Sizzling Finch'. A percussive intro and string samples set the tone before a filthy bassline and shuffling beats take the track into peaktime club mode. '60's Girl' drops the tempo and takes you on a vocoder-led melancholic epic that will invite comparisons to Air and even the mighty ELO! 'Diamonds & Dimebags? is another downtempo work-out with shuffling beats, a deep organic bassline and an equal measure of electronic and organic keyboard sounds. All in all 'Adios' is an album that shows the duo's production nouse without over-elaborating or sticking to a tried and tested formula. Fans of Pork will obviously approve as should any open-minded lovers of leftfield eclecticism.'

"head-jogging tracks that bubble along in their own nice reclined way. For addled minds and sweaty jigged-out bodies this is ideal minicab music through yellow sodium lights and glistening black tarmac back home to a sofa somewhere". - Eyeballkid.com

Second album (the first came out on Pork Recordings - Fila Brazillia etc) from Hull's Robert Ellerby and Dutch producer Remko Schouten. A grower that evolves at it's own pace... It's a goodie. - Graham Radley NetRhythms.co.uk
