Appaloosa are Ben McColl and Matthew Brooks who, along with DJ Orbit, under the project name Nautilus, were responsible for the cool grooves of the 'SMALL ADVENTURES EP which also put in an appearance on last year's Sunday Best album (Dust to Dust). In 93 Ben and Matthew formed Appaloosa and less than a year later had their first release, the underground classic Unplugged EP via Recoil Records. Releases on LTJ Bukem's Good Lookin' and Looking Good labels followed and their own label Pepper was set up as an outlet for their production work. Remixes for Towa Tei, House of 909 and 70's supergroup Jefferson Airplane followed in quick succession. Appaloosa mix soft focus, mid-tempo understated drum n' bass sensibility with a post hip-hop collage of simple, sparse, hypnotic and simply beautiful melody fragments. Appaloosa is as carefully crafted as a Bill Clinton denial and there isn't a sound on this record that isn't pure, perfect and placed precisely where you want it to be. It's a great morning, saddle up your Appaloosa stallion and head for the sunny uplands and the wide open headspace of any track on this album. Immediate membership in the pioneers of the hypnotic groove hall of fame is hereby granted. Released through Different Drummer, the label responsible for the NuDub genre, Breakbeat maestros Euphonic, Groove Corp, Rockers HiFi, amongst many others. 'Like diamonds bouncing on a titanium tabletop, yet never harsh or grating' Tony Blackburn'

The Bournemouth duo mix'n'match tempos with ridiculous ease, like the pitch control's manipulated by someone plugged into the National Grid. Bukem style ambi-jungle, dope dub gear, and harsher new school d'n'b. - Kieran Wyatt Muzik
