UK-based electronic artist Lost Idol returns with his third studio album following the acclaimed Utters From A Cluttered Mind (Cookshop, 2006), Brave The Elements (Cookshop, 2010) and releases through Marco Passarani's Nature Recordings and Pork Recordings. Chrome Machine Tales is an immersive yet surprisingly concise and accessible electronic pop album imbued with a sense of melancholy that has become Lost Idol's calling card.

The passage of time is a curious thing. Whilst we strive and yearn for a brighter tomorrow eagerly anticipating what the future might bring, things often look better in the reflection of the rear-view mirror. It is this sentiment that forms the basis of Chrome Machine Tales, the third studio album by musician, broadcaster and DJ Lost Idol.

As he explains, "It seemed somewhat ironic that I was trying to write music that is electronic and futuristic, yet the very synthesizers I was using are now twenty or even thirty years old. It got me thinking about what I was up to at the time these machines were built, leading me to write lyrics about situations and events that have become slowly eroded and embellished within my memory by the passing of time".

On the surface Chrome Machine Tales does indeed sound contemporary - Lost Idol's vocals are heavily processed through vocoders and effects, shrouded in swathes of rich analogue synths and carried along in unhurried fashion by electronic drums and percussion. But focus on the words and you'll hear stories from years gone by; the enigmatic girl with blue lotus eyes, unexplained lights in the sky above the Surrey hills, the calculated analysis of the disintegration of relationships - mathematically void, mechanically unstable. These are all tales from Lost Idol's youth retold over twenty years on using the technology he has amassed over that time. Musically his self-confessed love for electronic music throughout the ages is evident, but there's also something very English about his musings - an almost whimsical eccentricity that could be attributed to his fascination with psychedelic trailblazers such as Syd Barrett and Julian Cope.
