Dudley & Friends

A 4 track underground rap/hip-hop ep (14m 15s) — released June 15th 2009 on Fat City

Two soulful forces from opposite sides of the pond come together on this latest 12" from the rainy city as Stones Throw's inimitable poet Dudley Perkins meets London's answer to James Poyser, the unassuming talent that is Eric Lau. Over 3 tracks and a version Dudley (along with a little help from ST's first lady Ms Georgia Anne Muldrow and another London resident Rahel) weaves his magic inspired by Eric's unique production style that has all the elements needed for a classic soul record. Mr Lau first came to the fore with his sublime string laden debut 'Welcome' on Charlie Dark's much heralded 'Freeness' project. Since then he has had music featured on Gilles Peterson's 'Brownswood Bubblers' compilation as well as providing beats for Wildchild, Lupe Fiasco and Detroit's Guilty Simpson not to mention wrapping up his debut full length album for release in early 2007. These tracks were recorded over 3 hectic days in Eric's London studio and almost instantly previewed to rapturous reception on both Peterson's Worldwide program and Benji B's Deviation with repeat plays. For Dudley this latest collaborative effort caps off another noteworthy year which has seen him release his second Madlib produced full length for Stones Throw as well touring Europe extensively and guesting on LPs by Roc C, Oh No, Madlib and Georgia Muldrow. Georgia Muldrow released the entirely self produced critically acclaimed debut album 'Olesi: Fragments of an Earth'.
