Point Reyes / 50 Hz

A 3 track ambient techno single (21m 34s) — released September 1st 2014 on Fifth Interval

Introducing the debut release on Fifth Interval Records - a three-track release from San Francisco based producer Federsen. Following his debut album 'Echo Relics' on Silent Season and a sell out release on the No Corner label - Chris Kelly is ready to commit his finest work yet to vinyl.

The title track - Point Reyes - is as colourful and enthralling as the Californian coastal peninsula that it takes its name from. Crafted using an elaborate chain of drum machines and vintage tape delays, the A side is a hazy dub techo trip filled with heady washes of tape delayed chords and crisp snares, creating a track that sits between the experimental work of Echospace and the more floor Rhythm & Sound productions.

On the flip side, 50 Hz sees Kelly further indulge his fascination with Dub. Unstable kick drums and percussion are loosely enveloped by craftily reverse pads and the suggestion of a vocal.

Dusty cymbals fracture into jagged pieces inhabiting every inch of the vast echo chamber, creating and unsettling but deeply engaging space. Comparable with the likes of Deadbeat and Strategy.

Finishing off this versatile plate is a remix of 50 Hz from Isodyne, AKA Patrick Walker, perhaps better known as one half of the highly regarded cult techno duo 'Forward Strategy Group'.
For the B2, Walker hooks the original track up to a morphine filled drop, slowing the pace to a sludgy 115 BPM, adding further weight to the cavernous kick drums, revealing further texture and detail from the original and placing it in a different dance floor context, finishing off this record with the enviable ease and leaving something for everyone.
