Everything Is Gonna Be Alright

A 2 track funk single (6m 35s) — released May 16th 2005 on Freestyle Records

A real fusion of old meets new and a belting soul anthem from the voice behind the massively popular Speedometer, Ria Currie. Whilst on a digging mission in deepest Florida, label head Adrian Gibson uncovered 2 original masters from an instrumental funk outfit mysteiously called 'The Deep Soul Messengers', featuring a fantastic cover of Robert Moore's 'Everything's gonna be alright '. Originally released in 1971 it is one of those rare funk singles that is only in the box of Keb Darge, DJ Shadow, Snowboy, Cut Chemist, Ian Wright and of course Adrian Gibson! Updating the masters was a hard task and it soon became apparent that they needed an extra edge - step up Ria Currie. Turning in a vocal performance reminiscent of the greats (think Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick or Anne Peebles) she instantly turns both tracks into bonafide classics. Already causing mayhem at clubs like Jelly Jazz, Wah Wah and Deep Funk, this is more 7' heat from the Freestyle stable.'

Freestyle are on a roll and this latest offering is a clever take on the reissue aesthetic. Taking a super rare instrumental funk jam from 1971, a cover of Robert Moore's classic and adding a new vocal from Ria Currie makes this quite unique. Think bass driven' shufflin' breakbeats, and repetitive horn riffs with an authentic 70's vocal sound and you're there. Good dancefloor plastic which fans of Daptone, Funk 45 etc will love. - Pete Isaac 247
