In The Air (feat. Fred Wesley)

A 2 track funk single (7m 53s) — released September 20th 2010 on Freestyle Records

This 45 and the following new album Kings (FSRCD/LP083) represents a long held dream come true for The Apples to collaborate with two of their heroes; a congregation with two musical and spiritual father figures from opposite ends of The Apples rich musical spectrum: Fred Wesley - Pioneer of funk trombone in particular and funk horn arranging in general with James Brown, The JBs, Parliament/Funkadelic and The Horny Horns blows as only he can on In The Air, a loping, deeply grooved number. The flipside Batash (Alwoojdi) is the vehicle for SHLOMO BAR - Vocalist, Percussionist, Godfather of Israeli world music. Figurehead of the highly influential ethno-fusion ensemble HaBrera HaTeevit. The exciting process of these recordings exposed the band's many roots and influences; elements of The JB's funky foundations, African, Cut & Paste, Soul, Middle Eastern, and Dub are all clearly displayed on both sides this fantastic new single.

'In The Air' is the funky track par excellence on the LP, in the JB's tracks with a touch of b-boy decksterity. 'Batash' is also a stuning track on the eastern side of the LP, I chose both of them as my favorites when listening to the LP last month. Another great Freestyle single designed to become a classic! - www.jazzradio.fr DJ PhilGood

The Apples return with secret weapon Fred Wesley - as if they weren't dripping enough with funk already - Unity Radio 92.8fm AGENT J

Two quality releases with a few surprises woven into the mix, great stuff! - The Guide Grant Paterson

The Apples are joined by heroes, funk titan Fred Wesley on 'In The Air' and Israeli legend Shlomo Bar on 'Batash (Alwoojdi)'. 'In The Air" is a hip hop funk gem with Fred's trombone the leading light in the mix! "Batash (Alwoojdi)" has vocals by Bar, and a similar cut & paste hip hop funk vibe. - Dusty Groove America
