Cambridge Circus

A 10 track indie pop album (35m 28s) — released March 31st 2017 on Gare du Nord Records

Everyone involved in the Papernut Cambridge collective also fronts their own band/project. For a while in 2015 they had the idea of putting together a 'revue' style show where everyone in the band took turns at the front, singing a selection of their own material, backed by everyone else.

The gig itself never happened but the songs did - they ended up (bar one) as a set especially written by different members of the collective, and recorded in the theatre where the show would have taken place.

This is the album of the gig that never was. There are tracks with lead vocals by Robert Rotifer, Darren Hayman and Jack Hayter, and an instrumental from Ralegh Long. There's a Picturebox/Deerful duet (Robert Halcrow and Emma Winston), a Papernut version of Citizen Helène's The Alex Chilton Song, plus one or two full band compositions - not only that, the songs have been spun into a surreal narrative: a Cold War meta drama played out in a shadowy dream-world inspired in equal measures by Le Carre, Lloyd-Webber, and Tales Of The Unexpected.
