Douglas & Dawn

A 17 track alt country album (59m 53s) — released July 4th 2011 on Gusstaff Records

SACRI CUORI is a collaboration of Italian musicians with John Convertino and Jakob Valenzuela of Calexico, Howe Gelb, Thoger Lund and Massimo Sbaragli. Translated as Sacred Hearts, the ensemble is led by two Italians: guitarist/composer Antonio Gramentieri and the percussionist/drummer Diego Sapignoli. Both are from the verdant hills of Emilia Romagna, not far from the hometowns of both Fellini and Mussolini. Light and dark.

SACRI CUORI strain folk, blues and psychedelia through a cinematic cheesecloth clogged with the bits and pieces of an emerging international gestalt. Where Nino Rota ends and John Lee Hooker begins is anyone's guess. SACRI CUORI have multiple credits involving studio recordings, live concerts, art installations and soundtracks for both TV and film. As a creative duo, they have played and recorded with Dan Stuart and JD Foster in The Slummers, Australian singer/songwriter Hugo Race as members of The Fatalists. Mr. Gramentieri produced The Slummers debut, Love of the Amateur and co-produced Hugo Race's latest effort Fatalists. Both records have garnered international critical acclaim.

SACRI CUORi have shared the stage and occasionally recorded with many friends, including Howe Gelb and Giant Sand, Marc Ribot, Steve Wynn and Linda Pitmon, Chris Cacavas, Bill Elm of Friends of Dean Martinez, Vinicio Capossela and dozens more. DOUGLAS and DAWN is titled after a hallucinatory sunrise on the Mexican border. Relocating to Tucson, they enlarged the ensemble to include John Convertino and Jakob Valenzuela of Calexico, Howe Gelb, Thoger Lund, Massimo Sbaragli amongst others, and recorded at Wavelab Studio. The result was handed over to John Parish who mixed it in Bristol, England for some truly transglobal weirdness.

First released on vinyl only, but after glowing reviews, is now out on CD with 4 bonus tracks.
