Bee Funk EP

A 4 track funk ep (17m 33s) — released December 7th 2009 on Jalapeno Records

The Beekeepers are the latest signing to the J-Funk family joining Kraak & Smaak, Skeewiff, Smoove & Turrell, Dr Rubberfunk, Soopasoul, Max Sedgley and All Good Funk Alliance on the Jalapeno roster. With stable-mates like that there was only one way the Bee-Funk EP was gonna go - a mixture of upfront party breakbeat hip-hop and one of the most beautifully widescreen ambient breakbeat tracks since Clubbed to Death. The producers behind the project are Bristol bad boys Boca 45 and Parker - each with their own stunning pedigree - Boca as the man behind Dynamo Productions and Zane Lowe favourites Malakai and Parker as one of the main producers for hotshot re-edits label Goodgrooves. Lead track Spelling Bee features an uptempo old school rap from New York MC Emskee but tears along in fine style in its brass and bass wobble instrumental version also. Transcript is a full fat funky breakbeat number for the clubs. To The Roots is an upbeat soulful club cut, while Symphony In Bee is that rarest of things - a breakbeat cut that could have a festival crowd aglow and would still sound right in a chillout set. The best strings we've heard in years make this track stand out from the crowd - big time.
