Stuff Gets Bent

A 10 track cut & paste album (32m 44s) — released October 7th 2013 on Jellyfish Recordings

Half way through a degree in mechanical engineering, Brandon Hoffman threw everything away and dedicated his life to music. Several years later he found himself living in Vancouver, making records for a living, and still feeling completely unfulfilled. Constantly experimenting with different bands and new instruments, Hoffman wasn't finding the creative satisfaction he thought a life of music would grant him. Things started to change when he picked up a second hand MPC-1000 sampler from a friend. Instantly creative sparks started to fly. The device opened Hoffman's eyes to the infinite malleability of sound. He began pushing familiar sounds further and further into abstraction. Having always loved the tones of old time and bluegrass music, he envisioned a pulsating landscape of broken banjos and mandolins.

Stuff Gets Bent
is Hoffman's second full-length release under the name Blocktreat on Vancouver's Jellyfish Recordings. This is an album of bittersweet down-tempo soundscapes. Hoffman layered together found sounds, field recordings of living-room bluegrass jams, and occasionally live recorded instruments to create a dynamic, cinematic mosaic of acoustic and electronic textures.

Blocktreat's previous album, Traditionals (2012) maintains regular play on CBC Radio 2, and community radio. "Blocktreat has set a new standard for field recorded beats, kids. Trust me on this one." (Passion of the Weisship-hop blog).

Stuff Gets Bent
will be released online September 24th, with a release party in Vancouver on September 28th. For more information, check out www.blocktreat.ca and www.jellyfishrecordings.com.
