Horsley Park

A 13 track deep house album (1h 4m 35s) — released November 19th 2012 on Lounge

Rivera Rotation has something special to it. Being one of the landmark acts in the late 1990s during the electronic Lounge era, the brainchild of DJ, producer, songwriter and music activist Pete Rivera reinvented itself in the new millennium and now arrives with his second proper full length album "Horsley Park".

Nearly twenty years ago Pete Rivera, born in the South of Germany, emerged as a highly respected DJ in Hamburg. His ability of mixing classic disco with house, raw funk and adrenalin filled 60s soul was the talk of the town. The single-minded club scene couldn't handle this visionary and increasngly popular style, conequently the idea for an own club was born. The legendary Lounge lasted 10 years and is fondly remembered. During its heyday Pete Rivera connected to fellow DJ Mr. Mellow and introduced Lounge Records. Apart from the succesful "Music For Modern Living" series, Rivera came up with his own music project Rivera Rotation. Being a melting pot of up and coming as well as established musicians, the collective releases a string of widely recognized singles between 2000 and 2005, followed by the album "Sunrise & Rainbow". The Rotation tracks were remixed by the likes of Fauna Flash, Vincenzo, Q-Burns or Silicone Soul, while the album (produced with Cool Million mastermind Rob Hardt), featured Innocence singer Gee Morris and Rivera's version of the Barbara Mason classic "Another Man". During the release of "Sunrise & Rainbow" about every aspect in the world of music was changing. The digital age took over, especially in club music it was all about having the right track at the right time. As Rivera Rotation always was about the bigger picture, Pete Rivera took some time out before getting on to his next project. With the release of the club smash "All Day" (Kickin' Music, 2006) and the outtakes, rarities & remix album "Waterdrops" (2008) and he was still visible, though.

During 2011 Pete Rivera took the next step. While Lounge sister label Légère Recordings increased the activity in releasing authentic soul and funk music. After remixing their "Love So Simple" as part of his Internationally Trained Bunnies electro-dance alter-ego Rivera met Légère signings Paul Elliott & Jamie Lawrence aka JetTricks during one of his London visits. Being a fan of their organic songwriting and analogue recording techniques he sensed here could be a future vision for Rivera Rotation. "Horsley Park" is the result of this meeting, and it opens new doors. Kicking off with the theme tune "Sing Our Song" and the haunting "Do You Wanna" Rivera Rotation embarks on a diverse journey into soulful, electronic sounds, definitely up-to-date in production but with a clear hint to their roots in Seventies songwriting. Featuring highlights like "Make It", "Live The Dreams" or the Turntable Orchestra cover "You're Gonna Miss Me" the album is a personal statement of finding one's inner balance as well as a celebration of classic, organicic club music. Surprising features like the Torpedo Boyz' "Are You Talking To Me?" or the Balkan grooves of "Teresa" are the proof.

Recorded at – exactly – "Horsley Park" in South-England with JetTricks and a little help from UK vocalists Afua and DJ Lora, the album was mixed with producer Felix Wenzel in Hamburg, accompanied by respected musicians like Simon Grey (Incognito, Miguel Migs, Knee Deep) and Tim Spohn (Marit Larsen, Aura Dione). "Horsley Park" is a cross-Channel labour of love. "I started in with my first single in 2000", Pete Rivera remembers, "and this is only my second album. Some things in life simply take their time." "Horsley Park" is such a classic case which just gets better with every listen.
