Puddu Varano

Time To Grow

MURENA RECORDS

Released: 29th April 2002 | 10 track album
The electronic outfit Puddu Varano is ready with their 3rd album. The title 'Time To Grow not only indicates that the band has got a history of 5 years but also that the complexity in their music has taken shape on this album. After the release of their last album 'Star 70' (that reached a sale on more than 13.000), they took their 'electronic' music, out on the road to France, Germany, Denmark, UK, Portugal, Latvia and Italy to then return to the studio to record the follow up. This album has a more laidback jazzy feel to it, but still with references to latin, funk, house and breakbeats. The first single 'Treating Me Mean' - a more club orientated house-track, has already got support from as Richard Dorfmeister and Josh Wink. The follow up 'Blue Sky White Sand' (to be reased March 4th) features the incredible English singer Lady Z. The album also has vocal input from Pernille Rosendahl (Nominated for 5 Danish Grammy awards) and Adrian Wilding. On percusiion we are proud to present the legendary Robin Jones that amongst others has played with Sade, Tito Puente, Charlie Palmieri, Lalo Schifrin and Stan Getz. For the last three years, Morten Varano has been running the two most succesful Wednesday clubs ever in Copenhagen; 'Club Lust' and 'Voodoo Club'. He also works with Ramon Santana under the name 'Los Chicharrons' under which they have released two critically acclaimed albums on Tummy Touch Records.'
"Morten Varano must be one of the hardest working men in dance music. Not content with forming one half of eccentric party funksters Los Chicharrons, the Dane also finds time to run a label (Murena) and Copenhagen club, Voodoo. There?s also the little matter of Puddu Varano, his on/off collaboration with Italian percussionist-come-producer Alex Puddu. The duo are remarkably prolific considering Varano?s hectic schedule, and here follow last year?s heavily funk-influenced debut LP with a more varied and considered set. Encompassing laidback jazz-breaks ('Running With The Devil'), dub-funk-disco ('Blue Sky White Sand) good time funk ('Back To You') and even broken beat ('Finger Trip'), 'Time To Grow' is a great improvement on their fun but one dimensionel debut. Well-produced and full of surprices throughout, it?s one of those albums that can?t help but reel you in. A real surprise gem. 4 out of 5."

"..an effervescent and electric Danish-italian combination who make mercurial, whimsical tunes?Making full use of acoustic strums, insouciant melody, live drum swings, funky Hammond, milky vocals and some shuffling house kicks, this is by far Puddu Varano's most intricate and interesting work to date"
