JUNG COLLECTIVE return with a mind blowing EP of electronics, funk & accomplished instrumentation. The organic improvisation & edgy, digital beats of Prefab Trad & Disappear see a welcome return to the eclectic jazz sound Jung Collective pioneered on their acclaimed 'Anoraknophobe' album in the late 1990's. Since then Jung Collective have recorded for some of the UK's most respected independent labels including Tru Thoughts, Soul Jazz & The Leaf Label whilst remaining fiercely independent in style & approach. DISAPPEAR is a warped, jazz-funk meltdown. Like Miles Davis jamming with Cameo, remixed by Cabaret Voltaire or Mantronix, with mambo, hip hop, jazz, easy listening, dub & electro vibes all informing the groove. Featuring new band member Stuart Henderson on trumpet & flugel horn, Joe Becket on percussion and Alan Gubby on double bass. Plus a grimey, digi-dub rework by CODETRIPPER (Martin Franklin from ambient pioneers TUU) & an abstract afro mix by RICHARD E that really takes you Further Out! PREFAB TRAD is a very 'Brighton' sounding track, intended for release when Jung Collective recorded for the Tru Thoughts imprint. We felt it worth dusting down and showing how Jung Collective were early contributors to the nu-funk scene. Just to emphasise the point, there's a full-on, funky car chase mix by another Tru Thoughts act: the mighty FLEVANS. As with all Nanny Tango 7's, copies are limited to 500 & come specially packaged with transparent inserts of eco-friendly, prefab housing (designed by the Canadian architect Lloyd Alter). NT5: JUNG COLLECTIVE 'PREFAB TRAD / DISAPPEAR? EP REACTIONS: 'a beautiful mix somewhere between Boozoo Bajoo & Afro Art Recordings'deep & sweet tonic!' Serge / DJ Snooba: Radio Panik (Belgium) 'Jung Collective bring some serious heat with neck snapping drums, a dark bassline, and jazzy vibes throughout 'Disappear'. The remixes aren't to be slept on either. Loving the Flevans remix on the flip - dude is out of his mind! Cameo sitting on a rocking chair in Alabama scatting through a talkbox - killer! Quality all around' DJ DRM / Bastard Jazz (New York) 'really into Prefab Trad in a big way! The original mix is a really dope swinging muvver!!' Diesler / Tru Thoughts (UK) 'Prefab Trad original & Flevans remix are both wicked stuff to play out!' Kinski / Switchstance (Germany) 'Ultra-cool dancefloor sleazer. Just like K&S wants them to be...' Kraak & Smaak / Jalapeno (Holland) 'Trad-tastic?!!' Paul Murphy / Afro Art (UK) 'really liking the Codetripper & Richard E mixes? Sammy Goulbourne, The Other Side (UK) 'worldwide beats & breaks, distorted, cinematic horn riffs, free solos - full-tripping future funk! 100% coolness for all the jazz dancers reappearing on dancefloors?' djouls / TIMEC / The Pusher (France) 'original Disappear & Flevans mix of Prefab Trad are great!' DJ BMX / Zimpala (France) 'my favourite Nanny Tango release so far!' Gandharva / Breakpoint Radio (Hungary) 'really rocks! Prefab Trad and Disappear (Codetripper mix) in my playlist - superb?' Giorgos Bratanis / Sala Sonora (Greece) 'Disappear: original & Richard E mixes are great!' Simon Harrison / Basic Soul (UK) 'sounds reet tasty!' Si Begg / Noodles / S.I. Futures (UK)'

One of my personal favorite purveyors of reggaefied mash-ups, J-Star, has another wicked 7? out, this time beautifully borrowing from Ken Boothe?s classic ?When I Fall In Love?, with Ms. Dynamite flowing just right like on top. Check the dub side for more rocksteady fun. Your man DJ Regal, who, alongside with DJ Touch?, formed the mid 90s big-beat powerhouse known as The Wiseguys, is back with a slammin? new 12? on Funk Weapons. ?Shock Ya Mind? is a serious slice of mid-tempo funk, full of enough heavy changeups to keep fools on their toes. Don?t sleep on the remix by Australia wunderkind Flow Dynamics, either. DC?s funk emporium Fort Knox Recordings nicely flip the script a bit on their just out New Gold Standard EP. Dark, sitar driven breaks on International Velvet?s ?Baby Shiva? meet dubby downtempo vibes provided by the Fort Knox Five themselves on ?Once Again?. Check their full length New Gold Standard album, out on CD soonish. And speaking of the Chocolate City itself, Kid Gusto?s got a new 12? out on True Grooves records. Entitled ?ReGrooves?, Gusto jumps on the re-edit tip; Ray Baretto, Rhythm Heritage, the JBs, The Wailers, the Beastie Boys and more get stirred up in the pot, with Gusto?s ace programming and live instrumentation on top. And? if bootlegs are your game, than also be on the lookout for ?R.E.-Edits Volume 4 & 5? coming from the UK?s Further Out Records head honcho Richard E., who reshapes the likes of Love Unlimited, Angie Stone, Myra Barnes, and Common into brilliant funk fueled workouts. Cut Chemist has a gorgeous record floating around right now. A-side?s ?The Garden? builds into a heavily percussive Brazilian beauty stomper over time. (I have dreams about this tune?seriously) Check the B-Side for a nice psyche hip-hop cut with Edan and Mr. Lif while you?re at it. Wicked London label Jack To Phono has got a purdy little 7? out coming from Mooch, alter-ego of Brighton based producer Flevans. Great drum programming and quirky dancefloor shenanigans. Flevans has also got a choice remix on another hard-to-find 7? out of London by the Jung Collective on Nanny Tango Records that brings serious heat with it?s dark and dirty basement jazz snappers. - Re:UP
