This Is What We do

A 12 track neo-soul album (47m 16s) — released April 18th 2005 on One Note Records

This is the third album from premier UK funk band The New Mastersounds. After the experimentation and jazzier flavours of its predecessor Be Yourself, the new LP is a return to roots, with the band doing what they do best - kicking the funk! The album boasts a mix of fine original compositions and covers (including Donny Hathaway's 'Zambezi' and Jimi Hendrix's 'Ain't No Telling') and percussionist Sam Bell has been brought in on a couple of tracks, spicing up the flavour with that 1960s Willi Bobo latin-boogaloo groove. 'This is What We Do ' will be a surefire hit with all their fans past and present - an impressive list that includes Keb Darge, Kenny Dope, Mr Scruff, Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay, DJ Shadow, Snowboy, Quantic, Richard Searling and many more groove-lovers across the globe. 'Needless to say, the album is a full on funk monster, with the hammond taking a greater role in the proceedings. NO VOCALS, just awesome instrumentals....... Stand out tracks, for me, are the latin-tinged Tin Drum, the speed-funk Ain't No Telling (Bob is outstanding on this track!) and Pure......... Who's the Elvis fan ''? F*****G MARVELLOUS!' Stuart Green (The Onion Club) 'My Favourite funk band on the planet? Pete Isaac (Jelly Jazz) 'This album is even better than the first two: which we loved!' Fabrice and Stefan (Soul Cookers)'

"...thoroughly authentic soulful jazz-flavoured funk without feeling the need to slavishly reproduce 30-year-old ideas". - Nick Churchil Bournemouth Echo
