Open Your Eyes

A 5 track dub ep (18m 19s) — released March 12th 2012 on Ranking Records

2012 sees the highly respected Gentleman’s Dub Club (GDC) release their long-awaited second EP on Ranking Records. Hailing from London, this talented band have won critical acclaim through their live shows which have been translated beautifully to CD in - ‘Open Your Eyes’. The EP is synonymous to the whirlwind first years of the GDC's journey with a startlingly collection of original songs. The blissful title track showcases an intimate lover’s vibe. This is narrated by layered back guitars and deep colourful bass notes, whilst singer Johnny Scratchley tenderly delivers the chorus. ‘Chronicles’ documents a whirlwind night out with a rather persistent lady, juxtaposed with the bands trademark frantic ‘ska ride-out’. ‘Run’ shows what the GDC do best: energy, musicality, a healthy dose of horns and high-octane steppas dub! Completing this highly anticipated EP are fans’ favourites; the anthemic ‘High Grade’ and the ridiculously heavy basslined ‘Tough At The Top’ - which features a storming verse from world famous Grime MC, P Money. As well as five original songs from the Gents, ‘Open Your Eyes’ also features a range of ‘High Grade’ remixes from some of the hottest bass music artists in the UK. Ruckspin's version rolls out on a stomping 4x4 dubstep vibe. He eloquently draws from the steppas rhythms and offbeat organ skanks of the original and mixes in supercharged bass squelches and jiggy chopped up percussion. Tymer's blazing electro tubthumper presents a carnival of brass and dirty stop out bass synths, which creates a dangerous slice of dance floor ammunition. And if that isn't enough, international dub superstar, Vibronics provides not just one, but three meaty versions for you to get your teeth into, making this the complete package for the bass-hungry dub clubber. Since their conception in 2006, Gentleman's Dub Club have cemented their reputation as one of the first live acts to experiment with the cross-pollination of Dub, Dubstep and Ska. The band have brought together respected fans ranging from the Clash to Fat Freddy's Drop and even David Rodigan MBE to become one of the most sought after live bands on the circuit. They have supported such acts as Madness, Roots Manuva, The Streets, The Wailers, Finlay Quaye, Natty, and Foreign Beggars Live Band. Their live highlights have been appearing at Glastonbury, Latitude Festival, Outlook Festival and Secret Garden Party, whilst also playing at prestigious venues including Koko, The Coronet and The Jazz Café. Fans that have joined in on countless occasions’ skanking to GDC’s tracks, will finally get a chance to blast out their favourite songs and relive the electric atmosphere of the unforgettable Gentleman’s Dub Club live show.
