Waiting For

A 4 track reggae single (19m 53s) — released June 9th 2014 on Reggae Roast

Born out of a mutual love of sound system culture, The Drop is a 9-piece band grown out of its small-town roots to speak to the trudging nation. The band, formed in 2009, has quickly established itself in the UK; marrying jump up grooves, down & dirty bass, epic walls of sound and clever lyricism.

'Waiting For' is the second single from the 'Turning Around' EP, released at the end of 2013 to precede their forthcoming debut album. The song seamlessly blurs the lines between indie-rock and reggae, with driving guitar riffs that ride a deep dub bassline accompanied by the funky groove provided by horns and percussion. It is a fresh and bold crossover that The Drop will be continuing to make.

The release is accompanied by remixes from well-established bass music producers, LV, who have not failed to deliver a unique take on the track, giving it a garage flavour and firm standing in the club music scene. Meanwhile, up-and-coming production team, The Future Dub Project, bring in the heavy-rolling beats, readying their remix for the summer sound systems.

The Drop have graced many a festival stage including Glastonbury, Soundwave Croatia & Boomtown. This year they're at The Isle Of Wight Festival, Outlook & Bestival amongst others. They've played in support of aome of the biggest names in reggae such as Toots and the Maytals, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Yellowman, The Congos, and Don Letts to name a handful.

They've had national radio play so far from Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio 1, Huw Stevens on BBC 6Music & David Rodigan on BBC Radio 1xtra & Kiss FM. They will have a six-page feature on them in the next edition of Wordplay and have been championed by worldwide webzines.

Stoking the fires of free thought, reggae has long been the spark to ignite any potential brooding youth movement. From The Clash to the recent explosion of dub-step, they all have their place and are each as culturally significant and quintessentially British as the last. The Drop has firmly found their place in this category and the international community.
