Walkover

A 9 track crossover jazz album (46m 30s) — released May 17th 2010 on Ricky Tick

Trumpet player and The Five Corners Quintet member Jukka Eskola returns with a stunning new album entitled "Walkover".The offering finds Eskola in moods not unlike those championed by the famed label CTi some decades ago. That being said, this is jazz in the present tense with a distinctively fresh angle. Thus far Eskola has released two studio albums, the acclaimed debut "Jukka Eskola" (2005) and the Japan only release "Hub Up" (2006), a tribute to Jukka's hero Freddie Hubbard. Both received excellent reviews and feedback (The Observer dubbed our man "one of the most talented trumpeters of his generation") Eskola's colleagues on the new album each rank among the finest players in the Finnish jazz scene, all awarded young instrumentalists with great prospects. Jukkis Uotila on piano, though, has already been going strong a bit longer. Jukka Eskola's new material displays a remarkable sense of well-functioning democracy in contemporary jazz: a tight team with way more than just the necessary individual skill for the job delivering tracks filled to the rim with shared musical joy. Great jazz in 2009? Look no further.
