Eight Pence Chains are a West Midlands based electronica duo consisting of Steven Edwards and Gavin Lyon, a pair who met on a music course at their local college. Working on various projects together including various live performances, they developed an effective working relationship that would soon be given the curious moniker 'Eight Pence Chains'. Their debut effort 'Music Is Matter', released in 2008 on Split Femur Recordings proves to be promising start. The pair share inspiration from hip-hop, techno and drum and bass, styles which appear frequently on the album, with EPC taking on their own take on them. A guest vocalist and MC surface now and again providing the album with a bit more depth and diversity, but still being able to maintain that much needed consistency.
