Slowfoot Records presents Oren Marshall's new album for solo electric tuba 'An Introduction to the Story of Spedy Sponda'. Inspired by a dream the piece traces Spedy Sponda's journey to enlightenment while showcasing Oren's extraordinary virtuoso talents. Originally commissioned by the Women's Playhouse Trust with funds from the Jerwood Foundation in January 2002 Oren has performed this piece extensively to great critical acclaim and has been nominated for the BBC Innovation in Jazz award two years in a row. The piece has also been broadcast on BBC Jazz on 3. Oren uses the tuba to trigger electronic sounds with the aid of a selection of effects pedals. Part of the piece also involves the connection and simultaneous playing of 5 tubas spread around the room - a sort of surround sound tuba scape. The result is quite astonishing ' when asked to describe his sound Oren replied, 'a contemporary classical ambient space heavy metal experimental improvised folk blues.'
