Grinder EP

A 4 track krautrock single (19m 59s) — released February 4th 2008 on Slowfoot Records

In 2008 Slowfoot will be making their first forays into the world of vinyl launching a new series of vinyl EPs featuring their eclectic roster of artists. First up is the 'teenage laptop wizard' (Q magazine) Robert Logan who delivered his staggering debut album Cognessence last year, gathering rave reviews from critics and creating a buzz amongst fellow musos and practitioners of the dark arts of experimental dance. Logan's Grinder EP features two stand out tracks from his debut album - Lost Highway, which Mary Ann Hobbs called 'absolutely outstanding- impossible to quantify', and Error Message [minimally re-worked for this EP]. There are also two new tracks - Sanza Live draws upon the development of his live set up and is taut, edgy and somewhere closer to the dance-floor. The nihilistic shudder of title track Grinder is classic Logan and hints at things to come as he works towards his second album. Over the last year since releasing his debut and working on Grace Jones' forthcoming release, Logan has been busy. He has put together a trio to perform his material and played at venues such as The Spitz, The Luminaire and festivals including Venn and Sonic Boom!. He has remixed tracks by Slovo, ex-Sugarbabe Siobhan Donaghy and Natasha England, and has also worked alongside Ivor Guest, Philip Sheppard and Brian Eno on Alex Gibney's documentary feature 'Taxi to the Darkside' which won first prize at The Tribeca film festival and is currently short-listed for Oscar nomination in 2008. Robert draws upon a wide range of influences from folk, medieval and classical to krautrock and electronica. He fuses acoustic and electronic instruments and sound sources including medieval instruments and field recordings. His complex and restless rhythms carry an echo of his half Hungarian background and its rich musical history. His production skills are edge of the seat, playful and asymmetrical - a powerful assimilation of recent trends that mellows with repeated listens to reveal a strong melodic instinct.

Something of a prodigy…already showing a maturity and a musical/textural understanding that many simply never find - BBC Experimental

“When not collaborating with the likes of Eno or Grace Jones, he cranks out cerebral, brain phuck-tronica aimed squarely at your head” - Flux

"...absolutely outstanding...impossible to quantify” - Mary Anne-Hobbs Radio 1
