Take It To The Top EP

A 4 track acid jazz ep (22m 36s) — released July 24th 2006 on Tone Control

The 'Take It To The Top ' EP is the new broken beat project from Tone Control (soulful underground DJ / Production duo Simon Finnegan & Marcus Harris). While the duo continue to DJ at their residencies around London including Soul City (with forthcoming guests Phil Asher and Lofty) and Boulevard Bar and Dining Room, Soho (voted Evening Standard's best bar in London), their House music productions have received support from heavy weight DJ's such as Miguel Migs, Charles Webster, JT Donaldson and Demarkus Lewis. Tone Control's soul n' disco cut-up project, Hog Dogs also found favour with the likes of Bill Brewster, DK (solid steel), Smooth and Kiss FM. This new 4 track EP continues Tone Control's musical expansion and is sure to find love with broken beat heads who like their sound with a twist of soul! 'Take it to the Top ' feat. Lady J (Tone Control Vocal): Featuring the sweet-soul vocals of Lady J, this is a jumping broken beat smash! A chanting vocal that oozes positivity backed up with driving drums, deep sub and stabbing keys, takes this mix to dancefloor! 'Lift' (Lava Musique Ensemble Remix): Originally from Melbourne, now residing in a Tokyo based studio, Lava Musique bring a gloriously deep chorded broken beat rework to this unreleased track, just in time for summer! Lava Musique have previously released remixes and productions on Nightclubbing Music, Groovescooter and Instictive Travels and have forthcoming work on DiY Diversions, DHP, Red Box, Knoowfoowl, and Macadamia Nuts. 'Take it to the Top ' feat. Lady J (Tone Control Dub): Picking up where the vocal leaves off, this dub brings heavy squelches and rolling percussion to the mix ensuring maximum dancefloor destruction! 'Love Thing' feat. Lady J (Tone Control Original Mix): Rounding off this EP, Love Thing takes things a little deeper on a slow house vibe with a vocal that swims around a topic we can all relate to: it's a Love Thing!'

A chanting vocal alongside driving beats, deep subs and stabbing keys root this track firmly on the dancefloor. - Universal Vibes.co.uk

?there?s definitely something there when Lady J is allowed to just roll on top of the bass-plumped beats? - One Week To Live

"Take It To The Top" is a deceptively simple joint with heavy bass and stabbing keys, helped by a soulful vocal delivery from Lady J. Pick of the tracks is the slowed right down groove of "Love Thing" which again finds Lady J on vocals. It's reminiscent of the old Theo Parrish remix of "Slowly Surely", thick with atmosphere .4/5 - DARREN WALL DMC

This is cool - sounds a bit like old 2000 black - I have played it out a fair bit. - Red Rack Em

Tone Control sounds good, so expect a review soon - Jon Freer My Soul.Com

Take it to the Top? feat. Lady J (Tone Control Vocal): Awesome tune, great combination of hi-hats and beats. Left of centre and a Right On tune! - Solar Radio

One of the highpoints on this EP is "Love Thing", where dancehall type beats and bass meet behind whirring synths and affectionate vocal - Mosoul.co.uk

Lead track "Take it to the Top" is very Bugz-esque and features a smooth vocal delivery from Lady J. This is just the sort of broken boogie that ticks all the right boxes - smooth yet enough bounce to work the floor. 6/7 - ClickGroove

...a real jumping broken beat smash. The chanting vocal oozes positivity backed up with driving drums, deep sub and stabbing keys! - www.ritmo.co.uk
