Coal Train

A 4 track deep house ep (29m 45s) — released March 3rd 2014 on Uncharted Audio

Cyan341 is Bethnal Green boy Mark Streatfield, returning to Uncharted Audio here with his new EP "Coal Train". When we first heard the opening track it was signed on the spot – probably one of the finest UK techno rumblers we've heard in many a year. Expertly straddling the borders of 'deep' and 'dub', this is a prime piece of soulful warehouse real estate.

Partnered with it on side A is "Far From Home", a track Streatfield wrote in the rice fields of Bali whilst thinking of the rainy tower blocks and grey skies of his East London home, inspired by a picture of Lasdun's "Keeling House" he kept as wallpaper on his laptop.

Flip over for "Nanakorobi Yaoki" - a track made around the time of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami whilst concerned for friends caught up in the tragedy. Around this time Mark heard the titular phrase which translates as 'fall seven times and stand up eight', which seemed to sum up the human spirit in times of such adversity.

The EP closes on a brighter note with "Space Kitty's Theme" - an unapologetic 80's inspired celebration of life with a distinct Italo slant – 'probably the poppiest thing I'll ever do'.

Released ahead of the full length "Far From Home" album, this EP follows his earlier "Disconnected" and "Pattern 4" releases on Uncharted Audio (licensed by the likes of James Zabiela), as well as releases on Smallfish, Kreislauf and his own Rednetic imprint.
