Ladies 'n' gen'lemen, please be putting your hands together for Mr Scruff and his latest phonographic recording, "Music Takes Me Up". DJ and tea entrepeneur Mr Scruff and his all-singing chum, Alice Russell both like music, so they decided to write a song about it. After disrupting, destroying and damaging dancefloors with the resulting ditty for most of 2008, Ninja finally managed to prise the master out of Scruff's greasy mitts for five minutes and pressed the monster on vinyl. Hooray! Pure jazz-soul-funk-floor loveliness with ghostly backing vox, ridiculous lungs, rock solid breaks and so on. Here comes the hot-Stepney. Stop not yet, though. Also included here for your aural delectation are: "The Clock" A fairground organ for the 21st century, with added clonk, ping, snip and parp, a sprinkling of yip and a huge mechanical prosthetic bass attachment. Wind it up & watch it go! Fun for all the adult family! "Fix That Speaker!" The sound of a bassist trying to fight his way out of a paper bag while being pummelled by the other members of the band. Vicious, low down, dirty, but funky. Who says that life on the road is all fun and games?
