Admit it. You never got Amon Tobin before and now your knob's dropped off. See? See? Fear not. Ninja's very own preacher man (uh?) has returned with more industrial strength rhythm vindaloodoo to give you the hoodoo. The Brazilico-fellow who brought you the international monster 'Permutations' returns with 'Supermodified' - some darkside psychedelia for twisted knickers and teflon dons. 'Get Your Snack On' sets the tone - a sixties anthem for when the acid has turns very, very bad. You can almost feel your skin crawl off and go somewhere else. From there on in, things get a little intense. 'Marine Machines' lulls you then slaps you about a bit. 'Golfer vs. Boxer' will cause many a punch up in a bag of clubs. Even the seemingly 'mellow' moments (disgusting word) like 'Deo' leave you feeling like an extra in 'Blue Velvet'. But don't worry (be wappy), there's a rare exhilaration to be had here. You see, Mr Tobin has a way of combining the hauntingly, dauntingly, flauntingly beautiful with the harshest, huffiest, stripped and screaming beats around. Sometimes it leaves you feeling sorry for your speakers. Most often, it just leaves you breathless - caught up in some backward loop and loving it. Or, at least, living it. And, as such, wordlessly, it says more than any 225 word summary is likely to. Or would want to.'

A densely layered brilliant beats extravaganza which you'll be reaching for again and again. - Susanna Glaser Muzik

Wrapping glimpses of recognisable samples and jazz inflections in unpredictable syncopation and cinematic vistas, Tobin has finally out done himself and created an album that doesn't just surprise and spit menace, but flirts and enlightens too. Tobin is nothing short of a production genius and a true guru for the slightly fucked up/weirdly tilted generation. - Paul Sullivan DJ
